Entry Level or Experienced Machinist

Job Summary

The Specialty Machine Operator performs routine production duties utilizing machines and tools requiring specialized training such as crank grinders, CNC machinery, mills and lathes, precision welders, etc. The operator is responsible for the throughput and quality of the product which is measured to a standard. The product produced is necessary for the final assembly line and for direct sale to the customer.

Essential Functions

  • Adheres to all safety guidelines, and uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) preventing incidents or injury to self or others.
  • Performs work according to the highest quality standards to produce a superior end product, meeting or exceeding customer expectations
  • ¬†Participates in and supports the principles of Open Book Management.
  • Verifies conformance of processes or work piece to specifications.
  • Studies specifications, blueprints, sketch, or description to determine machine settings, tolerances, adjustments and repair methods.
  • Checks materials prior to processing to assure they meet specifications.
  • Verifies dimensions with measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Measures, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of engine machinery and familiarity with troubleshooting product.
  • Ability to have an orderly and methodical approach to performing work, and display attention to detail in completing multiple or repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to make judgments on part restoration based on a set of predetermined criteria.
  • Possesses good verbal communicational skills to articulate product or equipment quality.
  • Ability to function and contribute as part of a team.
  • Ability to read various types of gages such as calipers, micrometers, dial-bore indicators, etc.

Experience Requirements

  • Three (3) years of production or maintenance experience preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Two (2) year technical degree preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements Essential to Perform the Duties of the Job

  • Frequently remains in a standing position to perform functions and duties.
  • Frequently analyzes product parts to determine reuse.
  • Occasionally lifts and moves products and heavy material with weight up to 60 pounds.
  • Occasionally communicates with employees to perform assembly and disassembly functions.
  • Occasionally lifts and moves products and heavy material weighing over 60 pounds with assistance.
  • Occasionally stoops, kneels, or bends to move equipment and materials.
  • Occasionally climbs stairs, ladders, and equipment to analyze machinery performance.
  • Occasionally exposed to outside elements when cleaning and maintaining shop area.
